Preparing For Your Outdoor Sauna

1. Build a Solid Base
Choose a stable foundation such as poured concrete, patio pavers, a pressure-treated deck, or 6–8 inches of compacted Class 5 gravel. The surface must be level and square—any unevenness can cause frame twist and make doors difficult to operate.

2. Plan Electrical Access
For electric heaters, arrange for a licensed electrician to install a dedicated 240-volt line with the correct breaker size for your heater’s kW rating. High-voltage wiring can be connected after the sauna is in place, but planning ahead ensures a smooth installation.

3. Verify Clearance and Access
Ensure there is at least 94 inches of vertical clearance and a clear delivery path from the street or driveway to the foundation site.

4. Account for Drainage and Snow Load
Slope the ground around the pad at ¼ inch per foot to direct water away from the base. In heavy-snow regions, confirm that your foundation can support at least 70 pounds per square foot.
